How it works
An API is used when you ask a system for something. A webhook goes the other way: the system gets in touch by itself when something has happened, for example when an order has been shipped or a form has been filled in.
Webhooks are often used to start the next step automatically, such as creating a ticket or sending a confirmation, without anyone having to keep watch.
